Econergy connects 59MW Iancu Jianu solar project in Romania
Econergy Renewable Energy Ltd (TASE: ECNR) (the “Company”) announced today that its Iancu Jianu solar PV project in Romania, with an installed capacity of 59 MW, was connected to the electricity grid and has begun the gradual ramp-up of electricity delivery to the network.
Iancu Jianu is the fifth Econergy project to be connected in Romania, reinforcing the Company’s position as a leading developer in the country’s renewable energy sector.
Following this connection, Econergy’s Romanian portfolio comprises 743 MW of connected and ready-to-connect capacity, alongside a further 861 MW currently under construction.
The Company is also integrating a battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Iancu Jianu site, adding 35 MW (70 MWh) of storage capacity. The system is currently under construction and is expected to connect to the grid during the second quarter of 2027. The addition is aligned with Econergy’s hybridization strategy across its Romanian portfolio, co-locating storage with existing solar PV assets to diversify revenue streams through grid balancing services, price arbitrage and peak demand response.
The hybridization of Iancu Jianu is expected to materially increase the project’s economic value, supporting Econergy’s broader strategy of pairing storage with solar generation across its European platform. Storage remains a central pillar of the Company’s growth strategy, underpinning revenue diversification and improved financing terms across its pipeline.
