BYD Energy Storage and inverter partners achieve top positions in the annual battery storage efficiency ranking by HTW Berlin
Shenzhen/Berlin, February 13, 2025 – BYD Battery-Box by BYD Co. Ltd., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of rechargeable batteries, has been ranked among the most efficient energy storage systems in the evaluation by Berlin-based HTW (Berliner Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft) for the eighth consecutive time. Together with inverter partners such as Fronius and Kostal, the Battery-Box system was able to secure two positions among the top 3 for the 5kW system test scenarios and five positions among the top 10 of the most efficient systems in the 10kW system test scenarios. The HTW test considers various application scenarios. As the energy storage system most represented within the top rankings for the different scenarios the Battery-Box was able to demonstrate the system’s versatility in combination with leading inverter solutions. Furthermore, the Battery-Box was one of the only two battery systems that achieve efficiency label „A“ in both categories.
For the past eight years the HTW “Stromspeicher-Inspektion” (energy storage inspection) has evaluated the efficiency of energy storage systems in combination with inverter solutions based on the System Performance Index (SPI). In the 2025 evaluation a total of 22 energy storage systems were tested. The SPI was developed at HTW Berlin and takes into account factors such as different energy conversion pathways, dynamic control losses and settling times.
The most efficient systems in the 2025 HTW test
In the SPI 5kW test scenario the Battery-Box HVS 7.7 in combination with a Fronius Primo GEN24 6.0 Plus inverter could reach the highest efficiency of 92.6 % in a shared first place. In combination with a KOSTAL PLENTICORE plus G2 5.5 the BYD Battery-Box HVS 7.7 was also ranked in second place with 92.3 %.
In the SPI 10kW test scenario the Battery-Box HVS systems was able to secure five positions within the top 10 ranking list. Combined with a Fronius Primo GEN24 10.0 Plus inverter the system achieved an efficiency of 95.4% in place 2 of the ranking. In combination with Fronius Primo GEN24 12.8 (95.2%) and with KOSTAL PLENTICORE plus G3 M10 (95.1%) the energy storage system secured the 3rd and 4th spot in the ranking as well.
“We are delighted to see how many top positions the BYD Battery-Box systems in combination with leading inverter partners could secure within the different test scenarios”, said Jiang Feng, Residential Energy Storage System Director of BYD Energy Storage. “The survey data provided by HTW Berlin demonstrates how important it is to provide full transparency with regards to a system’s overall efficiency, the efficiency level during charging and discharging cycles as well as standby losses. Only with this full transparency and reliable data installers and end-users can choose the most suitable system. The survey also confirmed the versatility of the BYD Battery-Box system, which can be used in a wide variety of applications scenarios – this is another valuable information for installers and customers.”
